We are computational biology group at the MGH Department of Molecular Biology. The long-term objective of the group is to understand genome function and evolution with the focus on epigenetics, developmental biology, and DNA mutability. We develop new and use existing computational approaches to achieve this goal. We also collaborate extensively with bench scientists. Recent advent of high-throughput sequencing technologies has allowed generation of genomic and epigenomic data on the whole-genome scale across multiple samples. The resulting highly complex data sets, often referred to as ‘big data’, require special statistical and computer science methods for their handling, analysis, and interpretation. We develop such methods and apply them to relevant biological and biomedical questions. Specifically we are interested in how structure and spatial organization of chromatin – assembly of nuclear DNA, RNA and proteins – mediates genome regulation during normal development and in disease.
